Ryan MacTavish, MSW, RSW.

Associate Therapist

I believe some people are born with a calling to help others. Mine began at home, watching my mother do just that. I saw firsthand how powerful a supportive, caring therapeutic relationship can be as she worked through her own healing. When she asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was simple: I wanted to be a helper.

As a Mohawk of the Six Nations of the Grand River, Turtle Clan, my identity is deeply woven into how I show up in this work. Growing up on Six Nations and in Brantford taught me the importance of community, resilience, and giving back. Supporting others in their healing is not just my career — it’s something that truly fills my heart, and I feel honoured to walk alongside the people I work with.

My approach is person-centred and relational. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to listen, understand, and support you as you make sense of what you’re going through. I bring together Indigenous ways of knowing with my academic training.

Before joining Dragonfly, I spent eight years working in the justice system as a conflict mediator, supporting people through difficult conversations around harm, accountability, and healing. This work shaped my belief in the power of curiosity, humility, and human connection. Whether I’m working with teens, young adults, or elders, I bring a calm, grounded, and deeply empathetic presence.

Outside of work, I’m a husband and a father of two. I stay connected to community through Indigenous organizations, boards, and accountability circles, and I also express myself creatively through music, digital art, and gaming.

I would be honoured to support you in a space where you feel safe, respected, and truly heard.

I am deeply passionate about social justice, policy work, and advancing Truth and Reconciliation efforts, and I actively contribute to committees and public forums aimed at making meaningful progress in these areas.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy expressing my creativity through painting, crafting, and playing video games. I’m also an avid kayak enthusiast, and I love spending time on the water whenever I can, as well as cherishing quality moments with my family.

If you're looking for support in navigating life’s challenges, I’d be honoured to work with you, helping you find the strength and resilience within yourself to move forward.

Sean Gedney MSW, RSW

Associate Therapist

Hi, I’m Sean — a Registered Social Worker (R.S.W., M.S.W.) and a firm believer in the values that make therapy meaningful: presence, compassion, curiosity, and trust.

My path to social work began when my family sought counselling during my father’s illness. I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of a therapist’s presence — how empathy and guidance can bring comfort and clarity during times of profound pain. That experience shaped my calling to help others heal, grow, and navigate life’s challenges with resilience.

Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of working in diverse community settings, supporting people through grief, loss, mental health concerns, and major life transitions. My work has included helping seniors facing food and financial insecurity, supporting caregivers and individuals in hospice care, and walking alongside those rebuilding their lives after hardship. Each encounter has deepened my appreciation for the strength and courage people bring to the healing process.

I hold a Master of Social Work (2019) and have completed advanced training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-Informed Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ti-ACT). I strive to create an inclusive, holistic, and supportive environment where clients feel truly seen and heard.

I’m passionate about meeting people where they’re at — providing a safe space to explore, process, and rediscover hope. Whether you’re learning to set boundaries, working through grief, or navigating change, I’m here to help you move forward with compassion and confidence.
